Day 32 Thursday February 9, 2023 ItsAboutTime remained in Marina and the crew hits a snag.

My brother Mike while at home in Rochester on Thursday afternoon felt a stroke coming on and called 911. Mike lives in Rochester, New York where they have amazing healthcare especially stroke hospitals and stroke ambulances and one was dispatched to Mike with this care the ambulance which has C-scan on board and a doctor on Zoom they administered the miracle clot dissolver drug and fortunately the stroke had little if any residual physical damage but of course reality is the amazing healthcare which would not be available on a boat and especially at sea.

This has and will continue to put a hold on our Great adventure as we and I re-asses the future.

I have made plans to return to the Boat February 26th and move the boat to Bahia-Mar Yachting Center in Fort Lauderdale over the three days March 1-3, 2023 and remain in that marina at least through March 22, 2023. For now that’s as far out as I have a plan.

Anyone reading this blog and this incident (and seemingly amazingly positive outcome) must also take the lesson that if you feel any sign of a stroke which in this case was loss of motor skills in his right arm and hand; then he immediately counted backwards from 10 and identified the slurring; do not hesitate one more moment call 911!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your brother Mike, but so relieved of the timing of its onset! So glad he was home, and that he is ok!
Your blog has been fun to read… what an adventure you have had already. I love the Naples area, and say hi to Christine. Enjoy your stay there, and I’m looking forward to hearing what’s next!
