Sorry for the delay in my reporting we traveled Monday as noted above from Tween Waters Captiva to Safe Harbor Calusa Island last Monday. The travel in nautical miles was short however this was a challenging navigation day, leaving Captiva taking the north channel out to the ICW when Navionics was charting a south exit. However as it should always be the case, we looked at the route closely and clearly some very skinny water on the south route. We also had concern on the Navionics chart taking the Caxambas Pass into the 10,000 islands of Marco. We reviewed alternatives and fortunately when I visited the Marine office I met another captain who had just docked at Captiva from Marco. Captains are always willing to share. His advice was take the north channel out of Captiva and enter the 10,000 Islands using the Capri Pass. While we still experienced very skinny water at a couple points we made the travels safely making up time at 25 knots in the open sea from outside Captiva to the mouth of Capri Pass.
Once to Safe Harbor Calusa Island we fueled then tied up at the end of E Dock. At this Marina there is pump out at the the individual slip; a convenient service but rare.
Tied secure for our stay. we are leaving the Boat here at Calusa Island for 14 nights for some R&R. My wife Christine flies down Tuesday to Sunday (the weather sure beats Little Rock) and our Son Eric and fiancé Jillian are in Naples visiting her parents Chris and Janet Friot so we will all enjoy time together.
Mike flew home to Rochester, NY and Christine and I will fly back to L.R. Sunday. Mike and I plan to be back on the Boat Friday February 17, and the next schedule stop is Marathon in the Keys.
