Well Thursday was to be a very routine travel day but of course there is no such thing as routine in the boating world. As we doo every day we plot our float plan on our Navionics which we have as an APP on both our phones and my I-Pad. this is the chart planning that in the past was done on paper charts with pencils and dividers and Parallels. While both Mike and I hade to pass a section in the Captains training on old fashion Paper Charts today it is all able to be done electronically in these fancy charting APP’s. We use Navionics. This is a charting tool not to be confused with our RaMarine which is on the boat that is your real time navigation once underway. Charting is planning your route in advance and the RayMarine is the what we use for real time depths channels and buoy location etc.

Back to Thursday, Chris was primary Captain today and we were following our always trusted Navionics automatic chart rarely double checking the route but we should have this day.

We followed it exactly right up to the point were in a tiny channel between the beach and a sand bar were we touch ground on our way to the sea.

Note I used the term “touched bottom” and not “run-aground”. So twice we have sailed and what we might say “run-a-ground” we have gotten of the bottom without and outside assist. while the difference is a matter of degree we have technically never run-a-ground but we have touched bottom twine both times with out damage or requiring Sea-Tow to be pulled off. After careful coaxing out to deeper water we went to sea and ran at our 23-25 knots to make up some time. arriving at Tween The Waters about 2:30. While the Resort is in need of many repairs since the hurricane it is a full service resort. As guests on the dock we get full guest privilege’s for all 4 nights we are guests. Pool, restaurants, laundry, etc.
