Pushed off at 8:10 slow out to the open sea and then heading south at 25 knots for 2 1/2 hours. Seas were moderate waves 1-2 foot with the wind across from the stern. Mike was the captain of the day.
Everyday has a hundred moving parts as you would expect and depending on the timing of when I prepare the blog some important points are forgotten, at the time and recalled later, many times I will go back and edit the previous logs so for Mike and I the Captains log idea behind our blog is also reality for our future reading when we look back.
For example today I went back to to our blog for Friday January 27, to record that when we arrived in Steinhatchee and Mike was inspecting the engine room he discovered that the Starboard engine engine oil cap was left off and oil had spattered sparingly about the engine room. Captain Chris had added oil that morning. my bad.
During Mike’s Monday’s arrival engine room inspection we had identified water under the starboard engine after our Gulf crossing and just disregarded it as not serious dry it up but keep a watch. However Monday it was back and upon further inspection this was back and the quantity had increased not serious but now concerning so we tried to get a Mechanic on Board but not to be had in Crystal River. So we will push on with renewed concern.
Crystal River and “Pete’s Pier/King Bay Marina was like 15 NM up the river a Looper recommended stop but we were not impressed with the quality or the services and 15 NM in a tough narrow shallow channel we should have skipped this Marina. However it is a big tourist place for Manatee tours and Fishing adventures by every water transport imagined, paddle board, Kayak, deck boat, and center console. Just not catering to large recreation live aboard boats.
